Program Overview

The Alberta Sailing Association is committed to building confident, skilled sailors who excel in competitive racing environments aligned with Sail Canada’s High-Performance Plan. This season we are excited to offer a selection of development clinics open to all athletes within the province.

ASA Offers

  • Expert Coaching: Training blocks, led by high performance coaches, equip sailors to compete at a national level.
  • Regatta Attendance: From local regattas to national regattas, we ensure our athletes have opportunities to compete and challenge themselves within the sport.
  • Diverse Training Opportunities: Various training locations are utilized to enhance all aspects of sailing, ranging from basic boat handling skills to high-performance racing at National regattas.

Alberta Sailing - Development Clinics Opti, ILCA 4.7 - 7, 29er

Aged 8 - 70

Alberta Development Clinics will focus on performance on and off the water, including boat handling, tactics, physical fitness and racing. The Development Clinics are located in Sylvan Lake, Alberta.

Alberta Youth Development Squad (YDS): Classes ILCA 4.7 - 7, 29er

Aged 14 – 23

The Alberta Youth Development Squad is high performance training and competition to develop boat handling skills and racing tactics to compete at CORK International August 5-9, 2024.

How We Achieve It:

This team meets regularly throughout the season, in training and local regattas focusing on skill development and building confidence on the water. Alberta Youth Development Squad athletes will gain on and off the water support, as well as have access to trailering to events.

Alberta Sailing – Opti Squad Class: Optimists

Aged 8 - 15

The Opti team is the foundational building block to a high-performance training environment. Athletes will develop boat handling skills and racing tactics to compete at Canadian Optimist Championships August 18-24, 2024, at Hudson Yacht Club, Quebec.

ASA Support Crew

Our official support crew of parents and supportive members of our sailing community will assure the success of our Alberta Sailing Team. Parents are expected to commit to volunteer time for support of the team throughout the season, including assisting with logistics, event organization, and support during regattas.
